Top Activities for Today’s 55+ Communities

So, you’ve decided to make the move to an active adult, 55+ community.  Congratulations and prepare to be busy!  It’s amazing how much time is freed up when the yard and home maintenance are no longer taking up your days and your dollars.  Chances are you will want to try new things as well as continue to pursue your favorite hobbies and interests. The world is your oyster!

Sports and Fitness

Active adult communities offer lots of choices.  Many centers on fitness and sports.  Highland 55 at Spring Creek  features an indoor pickleball court, a yoga studio, and fitness equipment.  Pickleball is taking the country by storm.  It’s a great choice for those who are looking for a low-impact version of tennis with an emphasis on strategy.   Yoga is known for physical benefits such as improving strength and flexibility as well as improving spiritual awareness.  There’s no need to drive to or pay for a gym membership when you can work out in the Highland 55 fitness center.    Highland 55’s location right across from Edmond’s popular Hafer Park  provides easy access to bike and hike trails.  Pelican Bay is open during the summer months for those who love to swim.  The Edmond, Oklahoma area is well known for its golf courses.  If you love to hit the links, you’ll be able to choose from over 35 public and private venues close by.  Lake Arcadia is minutes away and is home to trails for biking, horseback riding, hiking, camping sites, and boating.

Social Gatherings

When it’s time to get together, it’s wonderful to live where luxury and style set the scene.  A full kitchen and bar area, fireplace, TV, and pool table in the clubhouse are used for game days, casual meetups and parties.  Weather permitting, the outdoor grilling area and fireplace bring residents together.  The activities director is available to help organize daytime and evening functions.  Whether you are a social butterfly or a homebody by nature, all are welcome to gather and enjoy great food, fun, and fellowship.

Interest Groups and Hobbies

The Activities Director is key to keeping all residents informed and the calendar full of fun and interesting activities.  Keep up with your favorite hobbies or learn something new.  Mahjong is gaining popularity all over the country and is one of the top 10 activities for ages 55 and older along with card games, crafting, and book clubs.  Lifelong learners will appreciate travel presentations and speakers.  Wine tastings, dinner groups, and musical performances can be organized by residents, or the Highland 55 Activities Director.

Lifestyle Reimagined

Lifestyles are evolving in a new direction.  In a recent national survey, over half of the 60 and older respondents said that they were active at least twice a week and expected to remain active for at least the next 10 years.  Creating a community that fosters a healthy, fun lifestyle is a top priority for Highland 55.  Welcome home to Highland 55!
